The ‘barely there’ natural beauty look has always been a popular choice for bridal makeup. Timeless, it accents who you are, and is about presenting your best self. It also photographs beautifully, something important that not all brides consider. Achieving this look is about more than just booking a makeup artist on the day. There are so many things you can do ahead of time to make sure you look your best.

Skin.

Every look needs a good foundation, and no we’re not talking about the cosmetic product! Artwork is influenced by the quality of the canvas, and your face is no exception. A luminous natural glow is easy to achieve with a little work ahead of time. It will help make your makeup last, and also means you can go with a lighter-coverage foundation on the day.

Exfoliating is the first vital step in keeping your skin clean, soft and natural looking. It helps everything else you are doing work to it’s best, like moisturisers and serums. It is also the best way to keep your skin from showing just how tired planning your special day has got you. It is important to choose the right exfoliant for your skin. Those with dry skin will want to avoid anything to harsh, because it will just aggravate your skin, and undo all the good work we are trying to do. A hydrating mask or facial oil once a week in the lead up to your event will also help keep your skin plush and relaxed.

And we know you are probably sick of hearing it, but drink lots of water! It helps keep the skin hydrated better than any mask will!

Eyes.

Eyes as they say, are the window to the soul, and whilst yours will be on your partner for a lot of the day, you want them looking bright, and without puffiness in your photos and videos. Pick up a nourishing eye cream or serum in the lead up, and make sure you are gently massaging it under your eyes and up over your orbital bone. This is best done with your pinkie or ring finger, and at night, before bed.

Lips.

Just like with your skin, preparation is key when it comes to your lips. Having your lips in good condition doesn’t just make lipstick look better, it helps it last through all those kisses, drinking and talking. Moisturising your lips the night before your wedding is best, rather than the day of. Also look at picking up a lip scrub. If you don’t want to buy one, there are plenty of easy to make recipes online. It’s just a little sugar, oil and honey. Exfoliating will help keep your lips from looking dried and cracked, making your lipstick look smooth and flawless.
