Spring in Victoria is a love letter to colour. Flowers are bursting, the greenery is lush, the birds are showing off… and the weather? Well. When we say four seasons in one day, we truly mean it.

That’s why we’re never just your photographer.

We come prepared so you don’t have to stress, and Kate & Jackson’s Lake Wendouree wedding was the perfect example of why that matters.

Kate had her heart set on a first look. Not just for the photos (though they were always going to be beautiful), but because she wanted a quiet moment with Jackson before the whirlwind began. A chance to steady her nerves, breathe together, and be us for a second. On a wedding day, those moments are gold.

The weather near Ballarat was wet. No drama there. But the umbrellas the couple had brought, while practical, were dark green and opaque — which meant their memories were shaping up to be a collection of floating torsos. Enter our emergency supplies: a dozen large, clear umbrellas that live in our kit at all times. Practical, flattering, mood-setting, and bride-approved.

Problem solved. Stress avoided.

The first look was pure magic. Kate’s son proudly led her over to where Jackson was waiting, and yes — he cried. Big, beautiful, heartfelt tears. Then it was into the historic rotunda with their closest family for a deeply meaningful ceremony, including a reading by Kate’s grandmother that reminded everyone that love is forever, and love is worth celebrating.

And celebrate they did.

Confetti was non-negotiable, but we added bubble guns to the mix (fully stocked, always), because weddings should be joyful, playful, and full of laughter. A wander along the lake soaking up those just married feels, then off to the Central Hotel in Ballarat for a relaxed reception styled in Kate’s favourite colours… with, of course, more bubbles.

One of the most special moments came courtesy of Kate’s grandfather and his pride and joy — his fully restored, customised first car. The perfect backdrop for some quiet photos of just the two of them before they settled in to celebrate with their people.
