Learning, Growth and Community


One of the ways I find joy is by learning new skills and honing existing ones. Photography is not just about pressing a button—it’s about continually expanding the way I see light, movement, and the human form. So when the opportunity came up to combine a low light and coloured light photography workshop with one of my favourite art forms, shibari, I jumped at it immediately.


I’ve admired Von Riga’s work for some time, and finally, our schedules aligned. The trek to get there was absolutely worth it. The session was not only technically challenging—working with rope, movement, and light in low-light settings—but also emotionally inspiring.


One of the things I deeply admire about the BDSM community is its emphasis on acceptance, inclusivity, and respect. This was beautifully illustrated during the workshop, where Von Riga’s model for the day had an ostomy bag. Instead of seeing it as a limitation, he worked with it, creating stunning rope patterns and body architecture that celebrated her strength, beauty, and uniqueness. It was a revelation—a reminder that true artistry lies in seeing people as they are, and celebrating them fully. The trust and respect these two share was so obvious and added to the beauty of the session.

Colour vs Black and White


The colour images reflect the vibrancy and mood of the space—rich light, dramatic shadows, and the incredible energy between rigger and model. Every frame feels alive with intensity and intimacy.


The black and white photographs strip everything back to the essentials: light, rope, and human connection. Without the distraction of colour, the images take on a timeless, architectural quality that highlights shibari as both an art form and a conversation between bodies.
