Some couples are meant to weather storms
Rhiannon and Mike fell in love in that whirlwind, all-consuming way that just makes sense from the start. But then, the pandemic hit. Borders closed. The future felt uncertain. Rather than risk separation or delay what they knew in their hearts, they made the bold choice to build a life together straight away. Love led, and life followed. Soon came a home, and then, a beautiful baby girl who quickly became the centre of their universe.
When the world reopened, they knew it was time to officially celebrate the love that had already seen them through so much. But with work commitments, toddler wrangling, and a desire to avoid the chaos of planning a traditional wedding, they chose to elope with Side by Side Weddings Victoria—a decision that meant no stress, no fuss, just meaningful moments.
Originally, the plan was to marry beneath the towering giants of the Cement Creek Redwoods. But thanks to some lingering bridge repairs, we had to change direction. And honestly? It was a blessing in disguise. The Alfred Nicholas Gardens offered a fairy tale setting, and the gentle rain made it feel like a world apart.
The skies were grey, the paths were misty, and the only people in the entire garden were the couple, the rangers, and us—exactly the kind of peaceful intimacy they’d hoped for. Using the iconic Rotunda to keep everyone dry, and our vibrant red bouquet set from The Styled Bouquet to add a touch of drama, their ceremony was sweet, simple, and full of heart.
Every word they spoke echoed with sincerity, and the way they looked at each other—like they still couldn’t believe their luck—was magic. Rainy-day weddings have a kind of romance all their own. Plus, we came prepared with AMAZING umbrellas (yes, they’re part of the service!) and all the backup plans needed to make it work without worry.
After the “I do’s,” we took our time wandering the gardens—unchased by crowds, free to pause whenever the light caught just right. It’s those quiet in-between moments we live for. Rhiannon and Mike soaked up the joy of being newly married, then headed home to their baby girl and the parents who’d lovingly stepped in to help.
Because whether you’re surrounded by hundreds or holding hands under an umbrella with just your favourite person, love is love. And we’re here to make it unforgettable.
