A wedding where love is measured in bubbles

Not every love story begins with fireworks. Some grow slowly and beautifully—like sunshine after rain. Meghan and Jac had built a life together, full of joy, laughter, and two incredible children they absolutely adore. Life was good. But when Meghan’s beloved grandfather reached the end of his journey, their plans for the future shifted. They didn’t want to wait. They wanted him there.

And so, with love at the centre, they decided on a family-only wedding in his original 1970s loungeroom, surrounded by vintage green and brown tones, deep memories, and the comfort of home. He came home from palliative care just for a few precious hours—to bear witness to his granddaughter’s wedding. And Side by Side Weddings Victoria was honoured to help make that happen.

Planning a wedding under emotional pressure can be incredibly stressful, especially when you’re balancing young kids and the care of a loved one. That’s where having the right team makes all the difference.

We styled the loungeroom to honour both their personal aesthetic and the nostalgic charm of the home. The result was warm, relaxed, and deeply meaningful.

To take the pressure off the ceremony itself, we encouraged Meghan and Jac to enjoy a first look and family portraits before the ceremony, making the most of the winter daylight. We met at the beautifully textured Pentridge Precinct, followed by family photos at Coburg Lake Park.

This not only meant more relaxed photos but also gave them more time to soak in the celebration afterward. And yes—bubbles featured heavily (a personal favourite!). It's a good thing I always carry extra bubble solution, because their little ones were all in.

The ceremony was heartfelt and intimate, with one of the most meaningful moments being Meghan’s grandfather signing the marriage certificate. There wasn’t a dry eye in the room—and I still get goosebumps thinking about it. Afterward, the newlyweds ducked out for a sneaky ring-finger tattoo (because who says you can’t be sentimental and badass?) before heading to their favourite local pub to celebrate.

There we caught up with Kel from Kiss Entertainment—one of our favourite MC/DJ friends—and watched as this gorgeous little family danced, laughed, and made memories together. It was beautiful. It was real. And it was theirs.
