For a creative person, there is no higher honour than being asked by dear friends to capture their wedding. Lizzie and Ana are not only incredible humans, they’re family to my heart. I’ve known them since my very first days in Melbourne, and I had the privilege of watching Ana’s journey to becoming her true self while she lived under our roof. Seeing her and Lizzie fall in love, grow together, and then announce their engagement on New Year’s Day was one of the purest joys of my life. Even now, as I write this, I can’t help but smile at the memory.
Lizzie and Ana’s day was about so much more than flowers, outfits, or details (though those were stunning). It was about courage, pride, and the kind of love that inspires everyone who witnesses it. It was important to Lizzie that Ana looked and felt like the beautiful princess that Lizzie sees in her every day, so we recommended Teighan Lee, who's expertise with hair and makeup is second to none. Their wedding in Victoria was a celebration of not just their relationship, but also their unwavering support for one another and the community around them. Family, friends, all the vendors, everyone came together to make their day absolutely perfect.
Held at the Foothills Conference Centre, chosen not only for it's accessible accomodation and wonderful staff and service, the chapel was beautifully styled and fully accessible, ensuring every guest could celebrate with ease. The getting ready moments were filled with laughter, none more unforgettable than Ana’s maid of honour Alexandra declaring: “Gather the bridesmaids—it’s time for the weapons test!” A line I will cherish forever.
The first look was unforgettable, it's hard to imagine that these two have any surprises for each other, but the light in their eyes as Lizzie turned around said otherwise, they gently smiled at each other, reassuring and raising their confidence levels before the ceremony.
Every part of the ceremony reflected who they are. Lizzie’s stylish combination of wedding gown, tails, and top hat. Ana’s radiant glow as she walked in on her father's arm.
Their celebrant, Kelly Evans, who stayed on to be the MC and DJ, wove their story with care, while the exchange of Syzygium flowers before their vows created a personal ritual that highlighted the qualities they adore in each other.
And the grand finale, as they walked out, the honour guard of swords by their attendants, a definite highlight!
And then came the moments of pure joy—like the champagne race (yes, the heart-shaped foam was ALL Lizzie, no Photoshop required!) and the golden twilight portraits that captured the day’s warmth perfectly.
The handmade details in the reception, from the unique cake topper that Ana's grandmother made many years before, for just this day, to the handmade cookies from Lizzie's mother (SO TASTY!), it was a delight and a feast for the senses.
The night flowed with authentic emotion. Their first dance left not a dry eye in the room, followed by a line of family and friends eager to share a dance with the newlyweds. Speeches from both fathers and maids of honour brought laughter and tears in equal measure. And Lizzie’s burlesque-inspired garter toss? Let’s just say the cheers could be heard for miles.
It was more than a wedding—it was a declaration of love, resilience, and joy.
