A forever worth waiting for
Some couples find love quickly. Others grow it slowly over time, planting the seeds with friendship, laughter, and shared life. Fiona and Steve are one of those couples — the kind we absolutely adore working with.
They met at work. Bonded over a love of race cars. They fell in love. They raised their family. Became grandparents. Built a life full of happiness, stories, and strength. And when the pandemic hit, like it did for so many of us, it brought clarity and change.
Spending day after day together in lockdown made Steve realise something that had always been true — this was it. Fiona was the one. So one day, completely out of the blue, he proposed. Fiona, of course, said yes.
We met them at an expo, and the connection was instant. When they told us their story, we couldn’t stop smiling — because we love when couples have already been through the highs and lows of life together. There’s something powerful about photographing a relationship with history — it’s not just about documenting love, it’s about celebrating it in all its stages.
They chose us to capture their day, and we were so excited — especially when we found out it would be a traditional Greek Orthodox ceremony, a first for our team! We made plans together, walking through the details as a team. But then, just as we were ready, the second lockdown struck. Then another. And another.
FOUR times they had to postpone. Vendors dropped out. Prices changed. Stress piled up. But not with us. At Curves and Lace Photography, we believe in walking with our couples — through every twist and turn. We kept every reschedule available at no extra charge. Offered new vendor suggestions. Kept the plan moving until everything finally came together.
And what a day it was.
From Fiona’s stunning gown from Brides of Melbourne to Steve’s custom look with Lyris Design, every detail was chosen with care. The bouquets and cake from Elegant Occasions by Jelka were absolutely breathtaking. And when the original reception venue fell through, Nikos Tavern stepped in and delivered the party of a lifetime. Add in the incredible glam teams (Teasers and Rebekah Lesser), vintage Hudson cars from Sherbrooke Vintage Car Hire, and a joy-filled crowd of friends and family — and the result was pure magic.
Fiona says the best part was everything after she stepped into the car. Seeing her brother for their first look. Watching Steve’s face as the priest led him down the aisle to her. Hearing so many guests say it was the best wedding they’d ever been to. This was a day that was beautifully them. Vibrant. Thoughtful. Full of personality and love and people who’d been part of their journey.
Their advice? Don’t sweat the small stuff. Pick your team with care. Make a photo list for your photographer. And whatever you do — iron the outfits ahead of time!
Fiona and Steve’s wedding was everything a celebration of long-standing love should be: bold, beautiful, and utterly meaningful.
